What If?
WHAT If?
What if we responded to children in the following ways:
-
We decided they were too young to be put into the educational system … because it would mean providing age appropriate materials?
-
We did not teach them the basic skills of life … because we must allow them the freedom to “be children”?
-
We did not give them a family … because the adults did not want to be distracted by their presence?
-
We did not provide basic health care … because it costs us too much?
-
We did not give them appropriate attention… because we don’t know how to relate to them?
-
We did not equip them for the next stage of life… because we will do it when they get to that stage?
-
We never read a parenting book or searched for help … because we were too busy being the best adults we could be?
WHAT IF?
What a mess we would have in the teen and adult years. The children would be removed from our care and we could be labeled abusers.
WHAT IF … the church said that children cannot be in small groups:
"Because … it would mean providing age-appropriate materials; we must allow them the freedom to be children; we do not want to be distracted by their presence; it costs us; we don’t know how to relate to them; we will do it when they get to the next stage; we are too busy being the best adults we can be"? Read Matthew 18 and you might just find Jesus calls it “abuse”!
Come on church – we can do this! We are here to help you. Send an email and we will be on our way “for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
